comment Label callouts in QGIS
From Regis (I trust I can repeat here) "Hi, thanks for your feedback I had to unplug that functionnality since there is a bug in the dialog raised when changing each label. Another bug is that you can't type multi line text in that dialog. It tested in 1.9, and it is not resolved. I signaled the issue here: hub.qgis.org/issues/8003 Feel free to donate or hire someone, since I think this won't be solved in 2.0. It is not a regression, and 2.0 is actually being focusesd on blockers only (help is welcome here to) Régis"

OK, many thanks for pointing this out to me. The description of the plugin was lacking detail so I had overlooked it. I will explore with the author. Also I will edit your answer as there was a bit more detail to getting it all to work, fortunately the plugin has safety features for users like me!

comment Sorting points with QGIS
Could you explain more what is the data? Does it include one result for one time and one place, or are there two or more results for each time and place. Are the times and places unique? Can you show a sample of the data in a table here?

comment Is there a common problem with copying from Windows clipboard to QGIS attribute dialog?
Well thanks, this is what I want to know. Checking though, copy from another windows dialog (i.e. url bar of browser) to an attribute field in a QGIS shapefile?

Maybe load up the tutorial data sets for QGIS and make sure those work for you.

comment trouble with i.landsat.toar failing to identify satellite
Can you show the settings you have in the metadata tab by inserting a screen shot here, or you might be able to highlight and copy the command text at the bottom of the dialog window which is created by your selections.

Is the style set in such a way that there must be a correct value in the attribute table? This would be case if you set the style for a categorized classification and did not have a null/default style. (Does not explain the 0,0 coords tho)

comment Default settings in Print Composer?
Well there is...... click on the label (it will then be "in focus" with the corner handles visible), CTRL-C (in Win7) then move your mouse to roughly where you want the new label, CTRL-V, Presto! Simply change the words! Finish the alignment by hand, ideally snap to grid.

Did you use the OSGEO installer to set up QGIS 1.8?

comment Can a Print Composer be “dynamic”?
Note that there are also a set of vertical tabs, which depend on the type of item which has been selected (in this case 'Extents', 'Grid', etc). These reveal more functionality.

comment Calculate Point Angle in QGIS
Points in GIS have no orientation. Unless you were to go and specify one as an attribute. What you want is the angle of the line, perpindicular to a point. Same method as noted in my answer below, me thinks.

comment Is it possible to conduct a flood model analysis with QGIS using a DEM?
to respectfully contrast @underdark's answer and InaSAFE, I suspect you are going to want to produce results related to time and so will need to include Mannings n as a parameter in the model.

comment Export to new projection in QGIS 1.8
There are menu commands for reprojection of vector layers and for raster layers. But reprojecting (changing the underlying data) is a more sophisticated (although simple) action than viewing the data in a new projection, which QGIS does on the fly.
