I have a Bachelor of Science in Applied Geoinformatics, with my main areas of study being Geography and Environmental Studies, GIS, Computer Science and Information Systems. I have always had a passion for computers and geography, so studying and working in the GIS field has given me the best of both worlds.

My questions/answers will be written in South African (UK) English - please do not "correct" my spelling.

comment issues with updating data source, script runs but nothing happens, arcpy
You don't need to save the mxd after each data source is replaced, rather save once the for loop has finished with the layers (shift mxd.save() four spaces back).

comment How to zoom to layer with page definition query set in arcpy?
@mittence That's not what I asked, I am referring specifically to zooming to the extent defined by a page definition query set by having data driven pages enabled. No features are actually selected, so using the normal getSelectedFeatures() method zooms to the extent of the entire layer.

comment Error with save path. Does not exist or is not supported
In your raster_dp.save() line, replace what you have in the brackets with os.path.join(path + parentdir, dir, str(dpRaster) + ".TIF"). It seems like you might be getting numeric values for dpRaster, in which case you cannot use string concatenation as you currently have it, the number needs to be cast to a string.

comment Nullable fields in feature service will not save with null values
I just checked the version of ArcGIS Mobile I am using, it is build 2437 and according to this ArcGIS Idea, this was implemented in build 2500. Will be installing ArcGIS Mobile 10.1 shortly. This really doesn't explain though why I could save null values in the mobile project before, using this same version.

comment Nullable fields in feature service will not save with null values
I actually used the 10.2 version of ArcGIS Diagrammer to create the schema and gdb, but am working with in ArcGIS 10. As I said, there are no problems saving the null values in ArcMap 10, the problem only seems to be from the mobile side.

comment Is there a way to show a layers feature count in the TOC?
I have done this using a script in the mxd, so I pop the code into the python window and run it to get a print of each layer with feature count. As @PolyGeo says, that could be incorporated into a Python Add-In if you want it to happen automatically (at 10.1 as mentioned).

comment How to truncate the %Name% string for inline variable substitution
Yes, building up the full name of your new output feature class in Calculate Value using Python is usually the best choice. This way you can ensure the name you get is actually what you want, and you can bypass some of ModelBuilder's "quirks" when it comes to inline variable substitution.

comment How to collapse folder structure into single folder using ArcGIS ModelBuilder?
OP asked for a ModelBuilder solution, but good to have a Python solution as well. My first instinct would have been to use arpcy.da.Walk, but I have found it to be quite inconsistent, so +1 for use of ListWorkspaces.

comment Group and export to pdf based on an attribute field using DDP - Python Script
Please post your code as an alternative answer, as the comments are not the place for it. If you are going to use this script as a script tool, you need to set both the mxd and output_folder as input parameters.

I've updated the code with os.remove(tempPdf) to delete the file after it has been added to the final pdf.

comment Multiple Selections from one shapefile
+1; the OP appears to be a beginner with ModelBuilder/Python, so this is the way to go. No need to complicate things when running two simple tools will do.
