I have a Bachelor of Science in Applied Geoinformatics, with my main areas of study being GIS, Computer Science, Geography and Environmental Studies, and Information Systems. I have always had a passion for computers and geography, so studying and working in the Geoinformatics field has given me the best of both worlds.

My questions/answers will be written in South African (UK) English - please do not "correct" my spelling.

comment How to call arcpy.RefreshActiveView() every 5 seconds using ArcGIS Python?
Your first code snippet is correct, but it is an infinite loop though. In your question you say you want it to run infinitely, but are you sure? Do you perhaps mean you want it to run for an extended period of time and then stop?

comment data driven pages format
I have done this as well. As good practice now I normally use a "turned off" version of the layer as the ddp source, then anything with the labels, page definitions, symbology etc I set on a copy of the ddp layer (or two copies, depending on the project). I find it easier that way, so I know at a glance LOTS DDP is the ddp source while LOTS contains the actual visible features.

comment How to position callout bubble leader using maplex?
Agree with @johns. Where I have had Maplex issues with about 10% of my labels, I would either use 2 classes with SQL queries to include/exclude the problematic labels, or if there were few enough (less than 30), I would convert to annotation and position them manually. I would then use definition queries to turn them on/off as needed through Python.

comment How to Calculate fields for attribute table using ModelBuilder?
Can you be a bit more specific - what are you trying to calculate in the fields?

comment Getting XY coordinates and field values for each row in ArcPy SearchCursor?
I like PolyGeo's answer, but I like yours a bit more as it's a bit more obvious especially for beginners.

comment How To Export Selected Data Driven Pages to PDF?
@RyanDalton +1 for the ESRI blog link, I used that post as my starting point for doing DDP in Python and it really helped me with many scripts doing various things.

comment Iterate Workspaces in Modelbuilder not executing all tools
I figured this is a bug in ModelBuilder, so I've long sinced moved to Python to do this sort of thing for me.

comment Python If else statements
This sounds more like you want to set up subtypes and attribute domains. If you set up a subtype on field A, then using an attribute domain the dropdown list in Field B would change accordingly. This would ensure that if NI is chosen, Non Irrigated is automatically populated, else the dropdown list will appear.

comment Changing page orientation using data driven pages
I've learnt a lot since I've asked this question, so I did come to the conclusion that I would need two different templates. I ended up creating a python script to pull everything together for exporting.
