I have a Bachelor of Science in Applied Geoinformatics, with my main areas of study being Geography and Environmental Studies, GIS, Computer Science and Information Systems. I have always had a passion for computers and geography, so studying and working in the GIS field has given me the best of both worlds.

My questions/answers will be written in South African (UK) English - please do not "correct" my spelling.

comment Is there a way to show a layers feature count in the TOC?
I have done this using a script in the mxd, so I pop the code into the python window and run it to get a print of each layer with feature count. As @PolyGeo says, that could be incorporated into a Python Add-In if you want it to happen automatically (at 10.1 as mentioned).

comment How to truncate the %Name% string for inline variable substitution
Yes, building up the full name of your new output feature class in Calculate Value using Python is usually the best choice. This way you can ensure the name you get is actually what you want, and you can bypass some of ModelBuilder's "quirks" when it comes to inline variable substitution.

comment How to collapse folder structure into single folder using ArcGIS ModelBuilder?
OP asked for a ModelBuilder solution, but good to have a Python solution as well. My first instinct would have been to use arpcy.da.Walk, but I have found it to be quite inconsistent, so +1 for use of ListWorkspaces.

comment Group and export to pdf based on an attribute field using DDP - Python Script
Please post your code as an alternative answer, as the comments are not the place for it. If you are going to use this script as a script tool, you need to set both the mxd and output_folder as input parameters.

comment Group and export to pdf based on an attribute field using DDP - Python Script
I've updated the code with os.remove(tempPdf) to delete the file after it has been added to the final pdf.

comment Multiple Selections from one shapefile
+1; the OP appears to be a beginner with ModelBuilder/Python, so this is the way to go. No need to complicate things when running two simple tools will do.

comment Multimodal network v.s. single mode network
Could you please clarify your question? Do you want both types of modal networks, or are you concerned about the difference between the results?

comment Is it possible to access individual pages within an existing pdf using arcpy.mapping?
That would work but I agree that it would get messy. I just tried it with PyPDF2 and it worked brilliantly with little fuss, so I'll just integrate that into my arcpy script. Thanks for your input.

comment Creating a spatial “Many to one” join
+1 for Make Query Table, I use it all the time to spatially join asset registers containing thousands of records to single asset points, so that e.g. instead of a single pump station point, I now have 10 separate points displaying the pump, electrical board, motor info etc.

comment Issues Using Dropbox to Sync File GeoDatabases
I have been using SkyDrive to sync file gdbs without issue for almost a year now. When we have proxy issues which sometimes means I can't access Microsoft services, then I normally close my SkyDrive and only allow it to sync again once access has been restored. I have edited toolboxes with models and scripts when my SkyDrive is open but not syncing properly, and I have not lost anything yet.

comment Geoprocessing service saved data to scratch gdb
Worst case scenario, I'm thinking you will have to to set your overwrite environnment settings to True, and then add a Copy process to the end of the model which will then output your result into the file gdb you choose. It's a workaround I know, but I've had to do something similar before when there just isn't time to figure out why it's not working when you have followed all the steps exactly.
