comment Where can I find Canadian postal code geometries?
Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be the case. The PCCF is still on the road map, but is currently excluded from the open data license: statcan.gc.ca/reference/exceptions-eng.html

comment KML (KMZ) generated from ArcGIS 10 open in Google Earth but fail to import into SketchUp 8
Any chance this is file-size related. I'd be happy to experiment with this for you this evening if you can make the data available. You can email me if you'd like. jason . jasonbirch.com

That's bizarre. Are you able to make the file available for download somewhere?

Google Earth is incredibly compliant with "Postel's Law" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robustness_principle :) There is a flag in Options->General where you can make it either complain or refuse to load invalid files.

comment ESRI REST API clients?
Oh, for sure the recent work by esri on web-frameworks and protocols is great. I guess I could contact support; maybe with a request for a public clarification?

comment ESRI REST API clients?
@Kirk maybe my interpretation is too narrow; IANAL too :) Prior to the introduction of the REST API I think it was implied that these clients were intended for use with ArcGIS Server, but I sure could use a FAQ / matrix showing allowed and disallowed use. I haven't found a definitive source on this yet.

comment ESRI REST API clients?
Hey, that's interesting @Jim, thanks. In our case we already have direct OpenLayers support in sandbox, so we're covered there, but this is a good justification for others wanting to support both OpenLayers and ArcGIS web APIs with a single interface.

comment ESRI REST API clients?
Thanks @Simon. We've been looking at the REST API as a secondary interface to GeoREST (similar to the current OData support). But if they best we can hope for is that people who already have ArcGIS Server can connect to GeoREST data, that's a pretty lean enticement to spend the required development and ongoing maintenance time. As an open source project, it doesn't make sense to implement a protocol that with its current client support encourages proprietary lock-in.

comment How can I transform a georeferenced JPG to a georeferenced TIF?
gdal_translate allows you to create a basic, non-GeoTIFF tiff with worldfile by passing GeoTIFF creation options with the -co parameter. Something like gdal_translate -of GTiff -co "PROFILE=BASELINE" -co "TFW=YES" myFile.jpg myFile.tif

comment Where can I download 1 arc-second elevation data for Canada other than Geobase?
Unfortunately, for some of the data GeoBase is the only source. For instance, the BC TRIM DEM is only available for ridiculous and unsupportable fees ($500 per 1:250k sheet, I'd guess more than $50k for whole province) otherwise.

comment How illustrate cells in attribute table?
In general, it's a good idea to not include "hi" and "thanks" in the question, and to spend some time formatting the question it so that it's easier to read and contains all the details someone might need to help answer it. Don't assume anything.

comment Subsurface data in Google Earth
@mankoff you're likely better off hacking something like NASA WorldWind or OSSIM Planet. Google Earth is proprietary (and possibly subject to reverse-engineering restrictions depending on where you live) and is becoming less programmable over time... the COM interface is going away after 5.2. googlegeodevelopers.blogspot.com/2010/08/…

I agree with @Michael ; Stack Exchange sites and discussion forums have some overlap, but this format does not work well for discussion, and the value to future visitors is limited.
