comment Why is SAGA from the Processing Plugin not recognised?
The SAGA folder path should be its install prefix, not the location of the Processing algorithms. This will not work.

comment Open mail client when clicking feature in Attribute Table
@user25976 You will need to listActions() and iterate through them until you find if there is already an action in there that you want to delete, then removeAction(index), or add it if it doesn't exist. See QgsAttributeAction class

comment How to save geopackage gpkg file with QGIS
Geopackage read/write support is in current GDAL/OGR stable version of 1.11. There is more extensive support in GDAL/OGR 2.0, but it works right now with 1.11. (Just not supported in QGIS as of yet)

comment Is it possible to open the attribute table using PyQgis?
@user25976 The reference to iface only works for the console or scripts run from within QGIS, including plugins like Processing. For the console, it is auto-imported for convenience, with all other cases needing the import of qgis.utils. This is described at the beginning of the PyQGIS cookbook. You can not access iface in a standalone app, since the Python modules do not instantiate the QGIS desktop GUI application.

comment Which monitor for working on printable maps?
Just how does using the QGIS Print Composer qualify as not being 'serious' enough about map quality? In order to be serious, one has to buy Adobe software and also purchase a $1,400 (USD) plugin? This in no way helps the poster with their question. I stopped using Avenza's software and became a QGIS developer specifically because you can create serious cartography now in QGIS, which also happens to be a full GIS application.

Are you defining your font label sizes in 'points' instead of 'map units'? If so, try using 'map units'.

comment Link QGIS to Anaconda Python Distribution: Spyder, iPython Notebook, pip, scikit-learn
On Windows, if you are using OSGeo4W for your installer, you need to continue using its Python installation, which is what QGIS links to to create its internal Python interpreter instance. You can use other Python distros, but you would need to compile QGIS from source yourself, which also means any dependencies, like Python C-compiled modules (QScintilla, etc.), need built against that Python installation as well. In other words, it may be difficult to build from source using OSGeo4W for dependencies, while also using a different Python than OSGeo4W's.

For curriculum (in US), consider researching the one freely available from GeoAcademy.
