"If there are buttons, they must be pushed. If there are switches, they must be toggled. I don't know how to use it until I know what can break it." -Me

I work as an odds-and-ends .NET / web developer for a Civil Engineering firm, learning new skills as I go. Got a 2-year CS degree but mostly had a great friend tutor me, and a patient trainer/supervisor who walked me through some of the OTJ pitfalls.

Weapons of choice are C#, SQL, jQuery/JavaScript, and CSS, although I also use various ASP.NET technologies and Python, and have dabled in iOS/Objective-C/SQLite.

I realized after the fact that I was referencing the Javascript API while you were asking about iOS. I haven't done GIS in iOS so perhaps this isn't possible.

comment How to use map service legend on ArcGIS Online?
Having learned more about AGOL since this was posted, I think the preferred approach would be to create a web map that uses your map service(s) as a layer, which should allow you to use the AGOL legend tools. Haven't tried it myself yet though.

comment Alternatives to ArcGIS Online?
Depending on your needs, there is a free option of ArcGIS Online that covers all your needs (from what I can tell from above), but the amount of data you can have is pretty limited. I have a full license through work and am coming to appreciate the platform, especially when it comes to mobile, cross-platform access and field editing.

comment Convert HMR to GeoTiff
I can confirm that Esri still doesn't handle .hmr natively with its raster conversion tools, although I can Data > Export to a .tiff from ArcMap. If I ever have to do batch conversions I plan to try running the tool from Python and seeing if it will handle it anyways, but can't justify spending the time for my current project.

comment Using Terraformer to convert to WKT
I have done a little with converting JSON geometry to other formats, though not with Terraformer. You could manipulate the JSON objects and spit out PostGIS-ready strings for database insertion, but I prefer to use the built-in functions (like ST_GeomFromGeoJSON) rather than reinvent (and debug) the wheel.
