comment Is there any way to spead up the Properties - Change Symbol and Symbol Selector - Edit Symbol actions?
Agreed - lots of room for improvement there - small things like changing a simple line of a certain thickness and a custom colour from simple to cartographic and having to thickness and colour reset to default black and point 1 drives me crazy...

comment Should I use File Geodatabase (*.gdb), Personal Geodatabase (*.mdb) or shapefiles?
It is important to note that the 2GB limitation is the only disadvantage of PGDB while on the other hand FGDB is very limited in SQL querying capabilities. PGDB allows users to take advantage of the full underlying RDBMS while File Geodatabase is very simplistic. Fundamental keywords such as "DISTINCT" or "ORDER BY" do not work with File Geodatabases. ESRI has been promising to add this functionality since FGDB conception but it is still not available.

comment What does this style of line on Topographic maps indicate
The official topo maps for the citu in which I live are made in AutoCAD and in these maps the line with the Xs is a fence. Not sure about the blue line but since this is almost certainly an AutoCAD map you might want to look at some autocad topographic symbology standards.

comment Convert multiple lines into single line
This is the solution. If you are unable to merge multiple lines on a single layer then there are other problems with either ArcMap or the data itself. Export your layer into a new file geodatabase, run repair features, create a new map document, load this single layer, start editing, select all featured and merge (editor menu)

comment Is there a way to improve the render quality of ESRI basemaps when exporting a map to PDF or JPG?
Export to tiff then convert tiff to PDF using Acrobat Pro. (cannot be jpeg or a bitmap. Acrobat renders tiff really well resulting in the best quality and smallest file size.) Seems like a very static and a cumbersome procedure but it is the best way to produce a PDF from ArcMap. Only Adobe Acrobat rendered and Nitro 7 and greater (not 6) yield good results. No other 3rd party tiff to PDF converter works as well.

comment Methodology for creating accurate drainage networks (and catchments) from high resolution LiDAR DEM?
@DIG - of course I zoomed in before i posted this question! Also the fact that the resulting basis have so many gaps obviously means that there are no segments to generate the missing basins from.
