+1 I guess we were writing our answers at the same time.

Thanks! Interesting info! Kind of had an idea that Landsat is not high enough resolution but was hoping that perhaps some band combination could reveal the presence of a herd.

comment Is there free GIS reader that supports transparency of JPEG layers?
I am not disputing your answer. Just making a comment WRT to ArcGIS functionality because you said that to your knowledge ArcView does not have this functionality.

comment Is there ArcGIS (ideally) solution for spill modeling from particular pour point on crude oil pipeline?
Interesting question! I have not personally worked with Leapfrog Hydro but it might be worth looking into.

It is easy, as you mention, to combine rasters in QGIS but there is a way to do this in ArcGIS using Image Analysis, Stretch & Pansharpening functions but it takes a bit of an effort to set up.

comment How do I use QGIS 2.2 to plot some locations on a map (of the US by zip code)?
I had no intention of answering your question. The comments section is only intended for comments such as then one I provided. I am not a full time QGIS user (ESRI, Geosoft user) and it is IMHY not a fully fleshed out GIS but rather one that holds a future promise. I use QGIS only occasionally and as such I am not fully qualified to provide an answer. We have a large, knowledgeable QGIS user group here and someone should be able to answer this.

Oh yes, right. I am not up to speed with all those. I looked into production mapping before for some specialized cartography functions but could not justify the cost. I believe it was in the 10K neighborhood.

LOL! You could make the add-in and post it.
