comment Import Shapefile into Existing Spatialite Table
Yes, but the geometry is in a column called geom. City, state, and country are all text fields.

comment Import Shapefile into Existing Spatialite Table
My spatialite table has three columns (city, state, country). The shapefiles have the previous columns, but also many other columns. I was thinking that my Append would have a SELECT clause in it (ie: SELECT city, state, country FROM shapefile...)

comment Convert from Julian Date to Calender Date in Field Calculator
Thank you Alex, I will pass it along. I don't see Julian dates either, but there must be some reason as to why they are using it.

To be honest, I am asking for a friend, and I am not sure if he can disclose it, but I will ask.

Yes QGIS can make a shapefile. You can load your PostGIS point table into QGIS and save it as a shapefile (right click on the PostGIS layer and choose Save As).

comment Populate Table from Table Spatialite
The intersection of points to polygons isn't the problem, I can do that with the following, its the populating the results into a point column: SELECT f.filepath, f.gridid, g.gridid FROM lu_geophotos AS f JOIN lu_grid AS g ON (ST_Intersects(f.Geometry, g.Geometry))
