Ok... so I got ArcEngine to do what I needed (with your help - thank you very much - esp Kirk). But its API is truly disappointing. Many functions are broken, and the docs are terrible. Dynamic Display is a GIGANTIC PIT that I fell into. Avoid at all costs.
