I've been in the geospatial industry since 2002. I primarily use ArcGIS, MapInfo, and FME. But I'm interested in learning QGIS, GRASS and other open source GIS software. I'm also in the process of honing my Python skills. My current interest is in PostGIS.

comment Is there a Time Slider feature in MapInfo?
MapInfo currently does not support this functionality. What is the MapInfo Profiler Arm? Do you mean the Crime Profiler? What are you trying to achieve?

comment FME - Filter Parameter choices to only projected coordinate systems
No, it's unlikely that there will be undefined projections. However, it is likely that the input will be in a geographic coordinate system. I need to force a projected coordinate system, hence the input parameter.

comment FME - Filter Parameter choices to only projected coordinate systems
Thanks @blah238, I thought about using a drop down choice. I'm in Australia and there are probably less than 10 to choose from. However, we do some international work sometimes, and I thought it might be useful to allow other PCSs. I recently did some tool validation in ArcGIS and was hoping for something similar. I suppose it is overkill.

The reprojection does occur in the workflow. However, this is a generic workflow that reprojects a pipeline and all the data that goes with it. I want the projection to be a parameter at the beginning so all other data reprojects to the same projection. I don't want to hard code the projection because different pipelines exist in different areas of the globe.

comment How to use fanout to accomplish batch clip in FME?
Another fanout option that I often use, is to expose the fme_basename attribute and fanout by that.

comment Updating a Tool Validator Class from a CSV File
Thanks. Turns out, all I needed to do was change the line in the updateParameters function. I just added .value and it worked. You're incorrect about .pop() creating a blank value in the zeroth index of the list. It just removes it and the first index becomes the zeroth index. I did that to remove headers.

comment Is there is a index that calculates for Sand in ENVI?
What's your end goal? Are you trying to highlight sandy areas at coastlines? Inland sandy areas? Have you tried image classification to classify sandy regions?

comment How to find when train nears station?
From what I gather, you have a line layer and you have a layer containing points that were captured using GPS. You want to get the coordinates of all the points that fall on the line layer? Due to the inaccuracies of GPS, I doubt many if any of the points will fall exactly on your line. You'll probably need to find the points within a given distance of that line. Please edit your question again and give us as many details as possible.

comment How to find when train nears station?
As there are an infinite number of points along a line, could you please clarify what you mean? Would you like to find the coordinates of all the vertices of a line? Or do you want to find the coordinates of points at a given interval? Such as every 100 metres?

comment How to load multiple types (formats) of dynamic readers into one FME workspace?
It's not unusual to have multiple readers in one workspace. However, if you have multiple files that are the same format, you can use the dynamic reader for that format. You can also try looking into the "Generic" format reader.

comment FME - ImageRasterizer fails to detect resolution of existing raster file
I don't have access to FME right now, but you should be able to expose the ECW attributes which contain the rows and columns. You should then be able to use those attributes in your imagerasterizer.

comment Converting Vertices of Polylines and Polygons to Points and Maintain Attributes
@StephenLead, good catch. I thought of that. However, earlier, I define 'output_fc = destination_workspace + '\\' + point_file_name'. However, the CreateFeatureclass_management tool takes 'out_path' and 'out_name' which is essentially the same as output_fc. resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//…
