Error creating a spatial database. ERROR : could not load library “/usr/pgsql-9.1/lib/rtpostgis-2.0.so”/etc/ld.so.conf had include ld.so.conf.d/*.conf one of the file was /etc/ld.so.conf.d/atlas-x8664.conf which contained /usr/lib64/atlas. A ldconfig -p | grep libhdf5 did not return anything. So I created a file gdal.conf and added the path /usr/lib64/mpich2/lib. Ran ldconfig. Now, ldconfig -p | grep libhdf5 had the paths to llibhdf5 files. After doing this, postgis raster suppot installation went smoothly. Thanks you for the input. |

Implementing custom (Vincenty/Haversine formula) functions for MySQL vs Using PostGIS? @Micha Thanks for the empirical evidence. I am thinking of implementing the functions and testing them for time taken. Will post the results here as soon as I am done. |

Implementing custom (Vincenty/Haversine formula) functions for MySQL vs Using PostGIS? @LR1234567 Went through the features of PostgreSQL and I agree that it offers equal amount of features. But at the stage my project is in, I would not like to switch to another DB, learn to use it/tools associated with it etc. But, what's making me rethink this is the geodetic spatial indexing which is not yet available for InnoDb.I do have a database abstraction layer and as you say, the application logic rewriting part is not much of a problem. I still have to give this some thought. |

MySQL GeoSpatial function for ST_Distance_Spheroid? Metric used in return Type of GLength? Pardon for the delayed reply. Thanks for the clarification on Projected Units. I have already read that MySQL presentation thanks for the link to the question though. I am already using the geography type, on MySQL. Currently it supports only Cartesian coordinate calculations. I think I am better off implementing the Haversine function myself. Thanks again for all the help. I will leave this question open for another 2 days before accepting it. :) |

MySQL GeoSpatial function for ST_Distance_Spheroid? Metric used in return Type of GLength? Thanks for the information. I have already read the Movable Type Scripts article.. And was planning on implementing the function. My mapping area is not small. In fact I am considering the whole world. So I will have to store the data in lat/long. What do you mean by projected units? |
