comment Options for Open Source Cloud GIS?
GDAL supports read/write FileGDB via a closed-source SDK. Not as bad as other formats, but still terrible.

comment How do I stop event propagation with rightclick on Leaflet marker?
This is for a DOM event. If Leaflet wraps events, use event.originalEvent.

(to be clear: those apply only to usage with MapBox tiles. You can use the SDK with other sources of tiles, which have their own terms of service(s?), which have similar provisions.

comment geoserver support to proxy other tiling services?
This is the best answer to the question, but should be taken with the recommendation that you should never do this on external services that you do not control - at the very least it's a performance nightmare, and more typically it's against terms of service and will result in your service being suspended.

comment Displaying UTFGrids with Mapnik and TileStache
> It sounds like your tile-offset position is constantly being determined on mouse movement and that position corresponds to the json grid's rows/columns. Is that how the look-up for the utf characters is done? Yes - offsets based on the pixel position into a big array of strings. The encoding is just made to compress well with gzip. Right now I've only worked on glower for Modest Maps - at that point there was no UTFGrid support in OpenLayers.
