Is there a public Web Map Tiling Service (WMTS) available? Okay then, v2.suite.opengeo.org/geoserver/gwc/service/wmts/… |

Difference between server and geospatial server What value of 'how' are you asking for? How they store geodata? On the filesystem. They transfer it to and from with HTTP and process it with either a Java or C core with usually higher-level application code, like Python or JS, that makes decisions about making UI elements, upload forms, and such. |

XYZ Layer in Open Layers has Missing Tiles TileMill will skip empty tiles; in map clients there's always a way to handle 404s somewhat gracefully and skipping tiles with no data is much more performant than rendering blank tiles everywhere. |

Advice on a generic open-source package roadmap The bit about OpenStreetMap graffiti is probably a bit misguided; OSM has occasional vandalism but it's the exception, not the norm. Per-user permissions have the obvious flaw that most users are transient and thus you'll have unfinished or junk data, with no way for others to complete or remove it. |

How are Google serving up their Styled Maps? Good luck finding supporting evidence for any non-PR'ed details of Google's infrastructure :). That said, what leads me to that conclusion (besides whispers from Googlers) is the anti-aliasing quality between colors and the ability to remove features at various levels, combined with the fast re-render cycles. |

esri javascript API: Does current extent match initial extent If you can edit your post, you should add more detail to the title; just naming the general subject area is not likely to garner many views. |

How to get routes and download them from OpenLayers? Use the OSRM API and its server install, or get a server to run this kind of task. |

Should I use a CMS for my web mapping application? OpenLayers is overkill for most tasks, and I don't think that Drupal's model of turning programming tasks into GUI-wrangling tasks is viable. For this kind of thing, unless you have thousands and thousands of points, use PHP to build a custom app which outputs GeoJSON, and use Leaflet to bring that in and show it on a map. |
