comment How do you explain what GIS is?
See the the Wikipedia page on GIS: it's an over-broad term invented by a guy selling things. It's like 'cloud' - no self-respecting developer takes the word cloud seriously, but it has gained many incompatible meanings amongst non-experts. We also have terms already: software, geography, cartography, statistics, science. I'd rather be specific than attach what I do to a vague term that most people take to mean 'ArcGIS'.

comment Is it Better to Use Google Maps or OpenStreetMap When Dealing With Data Points in both Urban and Rural Areas?
TIGER data has some signature problems outlined in an OSM wiki page: wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/TIGER_fixup and I haven't yet seen an example of Google Maps having these problems. They release no information actual data sourcing post-going-solo, so there really isn't much else to go on.

comment Points appear at different location when using google map overlay
It'll only reproject it if you ask it to, by defining the projections for all of your layers, and if GeoServer can reproject that data type - raster might not work.

Sorry, but part of this code is blowing my mind. Why do you declare undifined and compare things to it?

comment How to add a simple WFS layer from GeoServer to OpenLayers map?
Yes and no: WFS is XML, so it necessitates an XML parser on every platform but Firefox (and 'the desktop'), and it also doesn't mix well with the only way we have to do cross-domain communication: JSONP. GeoJSON, on the other hand, is natively parsed in nearly every browser and is easily and commonly wrapped to be cross-domain compatible. Obviously not apples-to-oranges, and that's not the extent of my WFS critique (bloated, poorly extended, etc).
