comment OpenLayers behaves problematic after certain zoom level in Google Maps Satellite view
You have to add the layer to the map before calling setTilt() on the mapObject. The second attempt you describe does not make sense at all.

Make clear that the layer has to be added to the map first

comment how to create the Layer Properties button as geoexplorer?
Do your WMS layers come from a WMS source? You may want to look at this example and try to align your code with it: github.com/boundlessgeo/gxp/blob/master/examples/viewer.js

Your EDIT2 is something you should pay closer attention to. What is the URL you use to access GeoExplorer? It should be tobler-v:8080/geoexplorer.

comment GeoServer Layer Preview Opens OpenLayers instead of GeoExplorer
I just tried this with 3.0.2 in Safari and it works fine. I do remember that there was an issue with the Layer Preview dropdown - maybe it was fixed between 3.0 and 3.0.2. Would an upgrade be an option for you?

comment GeoExplorer provokes “401 Unauthorized” request and lacks login
Looks like you are mixing production mode and debug mode on the same machine in different VMs and different browsers. This can indeed cause cookie confusion. So what you should try is clear your browser's cache and cookies, and then go to the production url of your GeoExplorer. You should get a login button then.

What version of the OpenGeo Suite are you using? The missing login button was an issue with an older version, and was fixed as of 3.0.1 if I remember correctly.
