comment Reprojecting MODIS Sea Ice Extent and IST data using GDAL
The EASE grid webpage notes that the new data would be projected on the WGS84 ellipsoid, so you can try that instead of the sphere Polamix used. That might help with the shift problem.

comment Reprojecting MODIS Ice Sea Temperature products with gdalwarp
The two EASE grids differ on the ellipsoid/sphere used. The old one uses a sphere (either based on Clarke 1866 as gdal reports, or International 1924 as the page you link suggests), the new uses WGS84. That explains the offset you see. Apart from that, GDAL support for the old datasets seems to be broken, as explained in the linked new question.

You get the same garbage without adding CRS information. So I think this is not a reprojection issue, but of data storage or compression. Strangely the newer files work almost out of the box.

HEGTools seems to work with the older data, but GDAL only on the newer ones. It would be nice to have this work in GDAL completely.

comment What's going wrong when I reproject raster in EPSG:32115 in QGIS?
In QGIS, you can enter the EPSG code in the filter input box, then select the found CRS.

comment Osgeo4w installation (qgis 2.8.2) error
By now, QGIS 2.10.1 is available. Can you retry to see if it was a temporary issue? Or use the standalone installer from the download page. I've never got such message during install.

I can see only a raster layer. For topologocal editing, you would have a vector layer.

Hu Tzu Shan would definitely not align with NAD83 Eastern New York.

@MichaelMiles-Stimson the offset between WGS84 and NAD83 is not about 100km, and can be neglected in most GIS cases. You might be right with state plane CRS that depend on NAD83, but with meters or feets as units.

comment SharpMap Coordinate transformation Problem
TOWGS84 transforms from the bessel ellipsoid (source) to all projections working on the WGS84 ellipsoid (target). Since Web Mercator uses the WGS84 ellipsoid, you only have to apply TOWGS84 on the source side.

comment Using Gdalwarp to Change Resolution of File in Degrees to Metres
For polar regions there are special polar projections to avoid distortions. I have no experience with Magellan GPS, so I can't help on that topic.

comment Using Gdalwarp to Change Resolution of File in Degrees to Metres
If your source data is in GDA94 in degrees, you need no further information on the source projection. You can freely reproject between any CRS that is valid in Australia, in any format GDAL can write to (ecw is read-only without license!).

comment ATS77 MTM 5 to NAD83 CSRS UTM 20N Coordinate Converter?
Apart from gis.stackexchange.com/questions/101705/… GDAL cs2cs should do it, if you have the right ntv2 grid file. The official site seems to have moved to geonova.novascotia.ca
