comment Specific renaming of elements in Attribute table failing until closing and reopen attribute table
Same here, seems like a bug. It only happens if you have sorted the objects by the column you want to change. Other columns behave normal.

comment How can I merge two lines in 2.6.1-Brighton?
You can zoom in on the end points of both. Anyway, a table with MULTILINESTRING geometry would avoid the error message.

comment How can I merge two lines in 2.6.1-Brighton?
I rather thought of shapefile/spatialite/postgis/GPX/CSV or else.

What kind of datasoruce are the lines in?

comment GCS transformation
Can you give sample point coordinates of POIs or crossings that can be found in OSM? Or upload part of the file to dropbox or similar?

comment How to deal with contour error “Exception encountered: invalid index”
The contour plugin needs a raster file for input, not a vector layer.

comment Transforming a PNG from RD_new to WGS84
Yes, it is for command line. But you can do the same with QGIS which is for free too.

comment How to convert total station data (coordinates) to 3D model?
Could you explain what you have in mind with the 3D model? QGIS and most GIS software is 2D, but can do some calculation with height data. For 3D visualization, tools like Blender or Povray would be better suited.

comment methods for converting coordinate datum and format in python?
Only if MSVC 2013 throws an error somewhere. I use the latest too. Having different MSVC versions on the same computer does not seem to harm anything.

comment methods for converting coordinate datum and format in python?
This number seems to distinguish the MSVC version between MSVC 2005 up to 2013. You should not mix binaires build against different MSVC. I think to remember that gisinternals does not support the python bindings like osgeo4w does.

comment Y-coordinates offset in Tilemill
Confirmed here with own mbtiles, even with datasources in WGS84. It is not a QGIS bug; if I use GDAL to transform to geotiff, it is shifted too.

comment Adding Eastings and Northings as attributes automatically to a point layer in QGIS
The virtual fields update on adding a new point. No need for save of the layer or project to see the values in the attribute table.

comment Qgis - Projection Problem with EPSG:2272
EPSG:2272 is a real EPSG code. ESRI have set up a similiar code ESRI:102729, which is included in QGIS too.

comment Adding Eastings and Northings as attributes automatically to a point layer in QGIS
Keep an eye on the field type: it should be decimal (not the default integer), and for degrees with a good precision.

comment Adding Eastings and Northings as attributes automatically to a point layer in QGIS
Unfortunately, this method mises the automatically part of the question. You get the coords for all existing points, but new points created after that will remain empty. The virtual fields from the other answer update themselves with every new point you create.

comment How to run OSgo4W shell script on Windows?
sh files are used in the linux world. The Windows command line equivalent are .bat files. These do not need a sh command to start them.

comment Problem with Orfeo Toolbox integration in QGIS
... and make sure that you have installed the otb package!. The processing/sextante toolbox is only an interface to otb, it does not contain otb itself.

comment Create a buffer in decimal degrees
Moving towards to the poles, the lon distance decreases, but the lat distance remains nearly constant. So there is no simple scaling possible. Reprojection is the only way to go.
