comment Looking for USA county level health and socio-economic indicator data that is comparable to data on other countries of the world
@celenius Thanks. I went to the URL. It appears the data, though interesting, is just at the state level, not at the county level, which I need.

comment Creating a small web-mapping/map-tiling service
How many polygons in your shapefile do you have? If its under 1000, maybe @Mapperz's comment on a vector solution is the way to go. The simplest solution is to use the Google Maps API to draw polygons and create information pop-up windows--no need to create and store non-interactive tiled images. Tiled images of a map are best for highly dense information such as showing satellite imagery, roads, or census tract boundaries.

comment Where can I find polygon data of wine (viticulture) areas and their main grape or varietal?
@underdark Best attribute: type of wine (grape or varietal). Nice attributes to have: Place name, elevation, soil.

I opened the dbf. There are 20,000 polygon areas of vineyards accross Europe--very comprehensive-- but I did not see any attribute information associated with the vineyard areas, just alpha-numeric ids. Any chance you know where the data that links to these alpha-numeric ids might reside?

comment How do I figure out if there are clusters of one set of points around another set of points from a different layer?
@whuber You're right. After reading your above comment, I have decided my Simple Plot Idea will not provide much information, at least as it was described, so I have removed it so as not to confuse people. I now believe Joint Count Statistic is the simplest method to approach the problem.

A measure of artificial light would be a good proxy for urban conditions. A google search should find example studies.

@whuber 1st thanks for the explanation of the problem of Ripley's K function. 2nd, when we see a plot of stock prices over time, we can look for general trends up or down or random, also we can pick-out times that there were large decreases or increases and ask why. A plot of how the concentration of buildings changes as distance changes can be used in the same manner. It can be used to search for spikes in concentration, which is evidence against a random distribution, also it can be used to focus further investigation of curious spikes.

Thanks .....I played with MarkerImage class...it is a simple way to meet most of my needs except for it doesnt seem to have the fine control of Label Marker Class, above from @Mapperz...specially to have each marker appear as a customized label

thanks...On an iPad, I think that when using Google Earth app it is not possible to specify any URL as it is with the normal PC Google Earth.

Actually the Fusion Tables information is very interesting Thanks. But that wasnt my question. I am using Google Earth on iPad (not Google Maps) and wanted to view simple KMLs (not tabular geodata) overlayed onto 3-D Google Earth. I wanted to know if I could do this by storing my KMLs outside of Google My Maps?
