You may also want to have a look at the Atlas feature of QGIS which does pretty much what you want.

comment How to delete selected features in Qgis using Python
Using dataProvider() is possible but I prefer to work directly on the layer since this way the changes are communicated internally (to the map canvas, attribute table...) and other reasons.

comment PostgreSQL trouble editing points / lines / polygons in QGIS
Hi Mathieu, can you clarify the exact meaning of "I can't". Are the tools deactivated, does it fail on layer save? And most important: is there an error message? Also have a look at the message log panel in the postgis tab.

comment How to get bounding box from a postgis database in terms of degrees?
I would reverse the order of the ST_Transform and ST_Extent calls. Transform each coordinate and then get the extent of the reprojected points. The extreme points in each direction are not necessarily the same for the source and target CRS.

comment QGIS script doesn't commit attribute changes
Have you read docs.qgis.org/testing/en/docs/pyqgis_developer_cookbook/… (especially f = QgsFeature(layer.pendingFields()) ) It also helps sometimes to check the return values of startEditing, commitChanges, addFeature etc. calls

comment QGIS script doesn't commit attribute changes
How about pointLayer.startEditing() pointLayer.addFeature(...) pointLayer.commitChanges()? (I.e. no pointLayer.dataProvider()... calls)

comment How can I check in QGIS python if an atrribute is included in my layer?
Then you will be happy to see that just a couple of hours ago I have changed the API doc for this and my plan is to alias pendingFields() with fields().

Normally the provider fields are the same as the layer fields. They just differ if you added or removed fields between the last startEditing() and the next commitChanges() call.

Can you add the output of [f.name() for f in layer.pendingFields()]
