On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

    <li>patient and fair</li>
    <li>leads by example</li>
<li>shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words</li>
<li>open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions</li>

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

I'm Mike from New Zealand. I have been working in the GIS field for 15 years. Currently my primary work is managing a city's assets for GIS and asset management (they call me a Spatial Asset Specialist), including the integration between these systems and any automation required. I like to find the most efficient way to do any task, particularly repetitive ones, so use tools such as arcpy, FME, SQL etc. (and a combination of those) to schedule processes and to automate tasks carried out while editing.

I have found GIS Stack Exchange to be an amazing resource and have learned so much in the short time since I found it. I feel it is important to "pay it forward" and give back as much as I can to the GIS community since I am learning so much from them already. I would like to get involved in helping the community in any way I can, and believe helping with the moderation is one place I could help.

Outside of work I have a wife and 4 children, love sci-fi, and am involved in community work.

I'm Taylor, from Atlanta, GA USA.

I joined this community after a couple of years of lurking when I decided I should give back to it after gaining so much from it. I'm nominating myself for moderator now for the same reason, I'd like to continue giving back to a community that I gain from on almost a daily basis.

I've been working with various GIS technologies for about a decade now, always within the natural gas industry. I've had the opportunity to work with GE Smallworld, QGIS, GRASS, and of course ESRI's ArcGIS through those years. While my main focus has generally been automation through things like Magik scripting, Python and FME, the tasks have ranged from data entry/capture, conversion and more complex things like spatial risk analysis.

Evil Genius is a nickname that was given to me by one of former managers. It stuck from the very beginning, so much so that it's followed me to another company! I decided to use this name so that those that know me well would know (or at least suspect) that this is indeed me, but others wouldn't have a clue.

Outside of GIS, I have a general love for programming and data, I brew beer (homebrew), wood working and I'm a gamer.

Hi, I'm Rob. I've been an active member of GIS Stack Exchange for over four years. I would like to nominate myself for the role of moderator because since I joined, I've been actively moderating posts anyway. I have several moderation badges and I am an active editor and reviewer.

I feel that this is the most important site for finding GIS-related information. I am on this site almost daily and usually several times per day. I come here to get the help I need, and I feel it is important to help others as well. I encourage my colleagues to join the site and ask/answer questions as often as possible because I feel it helps their skills. Answering questions improves one's own skills while helping others.

I've been in the spatial industry for about 15 years. In my current employment, I mainly use ArcGIS and FME. I am continually striving to make my job easier by writing python tools and automating as much as I can. I also have several years of MapInfo experience as well as Microstation (I know, not really GIS). I have degrees in both mathematics and GIS.

This election is over.
