Also, given the massive memory requirements of the DEM itself, it's wise to close all displayed layers before running any analysis. Email me if you need any further advice on how to get it to work for you.

Oct 6, 2014 at 16:05 comment added washways Wow. Amazing! Unfortunately I am woefully under equipped with both data connection and computing power. Took most of the night to download and I am chugging away with 8GB RAM. It failed completely. Now redoing for just Sudan but stuck on 2nd iteration of loop 2. 1% every 10 mins.... guessing about 10 hours to wait...

Oct 5, 2014 at 22:57 comment added washways my fault for using a work computer for most of my GIS stuff and restrictions this imposes. I have it running off a USB on a faster personal machine now.... will leave it downloading 500+ tiles overnight and see how it goes tomorrow for some large scale tests in the morning. Just for the SRTM download tool I am very happy with this find!
Oct 5, 2014 at 22:21 comment added WhiteboxDev @washmaps It's true that you need Java 8 to run the current version of Whitebox. It's funny, when I upgraded the project to Java 8, I assumed, perhaps wrongly, that everyone would be so quick to upgrade. Upgrading from 6 to 7 wasn't much of a problem. But it seems that isn't the case for the 7 to 8 switch in enterprise. Very sorry.
Oct 5, 2014 at 21:50 comment added washways Downloaded this before but could not get to run due to older java version. Work machine means I am a bit blocked here but will do some USB based tests on another machine.... From your post it looks perfect....
