Mar 21, 2019 at 16:13 comment added pdavis ST_Union() in PostGIS is like the 'Dissolve' tool in QGIS. What you need to use is something like 'select ST_Intersection(a.geom, b.geom) where ST_Intersects(a.geom, b.geom) in order to return the area where both A and B overlap.
