Nov 10, 2021 at 18:19 comment added Paul Ramsey You've got GEOS 3.7 in the old version and GEOS 3.9 in the new, and the overlay algorithms were completely re-written for 3.9, so if you're seeing big wins performance-wise all I can say are "yay you!" and it's probably not to do with Pg13 vs Pg14, but to the update in the underlying GEOS.

Sep 30, 2021 at 20:36 comment added Paul Ramsey What is the select postgis_geos_version() in those images? Might be the main difference.
Sep 30, 2021 at 19:05 comment added dr_jts As I noted on the other issue, GEOS 3.9 implements an optimization for intersection with large geometries. That is probably what is improving performance here.
Sep 30, 2021 at 18:50 comment added dr_jts Does the faster query use ST_Intersection on the original large polygon (as opposed to the ST_Subdivide approach)?
Sep 30, 2021 at 18:42 comment added dr_jts That's great. Can you post the query that was fastest?
