Passing a WKT Polygon with interior rings to a QgsRubberBand's Geometry with PyQGIS

Question

Starting point is that I select a geometry with the following query in QGIS DB Manager:

SELECT 1 AS myid, st_buffer(st_union(wkb_geometry), 5)
FROM ax_strassenverkehr

... and add the query result as a new layer, which looks like this:

In a QGIS plugin, I do a similar query (with appropriate parameters) like

Now I would like to pass this WKT Geometry to a QgsRubberBand.Geometry with the following code:

Obviously the interior rings are missing. Why is that so? Since the query and the resulting WKT polygon seems to be correct, is there something I am missing with QgsGeometry.fromWkt() or QgsRubberBand.setToGeomtry()?

There is nothing you are missing. The reason is that QgsRubberBand class ignores holes, just uses exterior ring(s) of a (multi)polygon.

When reviewing the related part of source code (lines with poly.at( 0 );), you'll see the reason.
