I need a shapefile for India which is up-to-date to display the regional borders. By up-to-date, I mean that it includes Telangana as a state. Many shapefiles that I downloaded do not have Telangana as a state as it was partitioned a month ago, it is displayed as part of Andhrapradesh.

So I need the latest shapefile.

Post is related to a rapidly changing event.

What data do you need? Regional borders, bike paths, villages smaller than 2000 people, cloud cover, population density..? Also, please include any other details that might be relevant to your question. Use the edit button below your question to update it. – Martin Aug 25 '14 at 6:03

What sources have you tried so far? Without knowing this, potential Answerers may suggest places that you've already ruled out, wasting their time and yours :) – Erica Aug 25 '14 at 11:35

You may have to wait a while for most GIS shapefiles to be updated with Telangana as a new state. Since, as you mentioned it has only been a month, a number of organisations update their shapefiles after several months. – Joseph Aug 26 '14 at 11:06

Hava a look at OpenStreetMap. Take a look at this relation: http://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/3250963 where Telangana is included. You can download OSM land polygons from here: http://openstreetmapdata.com/data/land-polygons or daily updated data from here: http://download.geofabrik.de/asia/india.html

take a look at what I've got here - https://github.com/geohacker/india. Contains District, State and Taluk level shapefiles for India, based on the GADM data.

Below you can find QGIS project which includes Telangana. "Shapefile" contains .shape file GeoJSON and TopoJSON as well.

You can just take the 10 existing district maps of Telangana to make your map. The districts remain the same. Roger

Welcome to GIS@SE, it would help if you gave the links to where the maps you recommend can be found. This helps future viewers of the question and makes you answer all the more useful .. – Mark Cupitt Sep 6 '14 at 12:02

You can get the old 2011 census administrative boundaries from the GADM database here: http://biogeo.ucdavis.edu/data/gadm2/shp/IND_adm.zip

Unfortunately, I can't tell which are the Telangana districts from this.

The datameet group has released a set of shapefiles, which includes the state of Telengana as separate from Andhra Pradesh: http://github.com/datameet/maps/

The data is shared under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 India license.

I've created a shp file that includes POK & Telangana - a combo not found anywhere else. You can download it at the following link:
