I am total newbie when it comes to GeoServer, JavaScript etc. I have managed to get my map working and the layers from my localhost are showing on the map. Base layer is OSM but I would like to add extra option in my layer list so that user can choose between OSM and Google Maps.

I've been searching far and wide for past few days but so far I have been able to implement any of the solutions I have found. Is it even possible to add Google Maps in my case?

Bare in mind that I am beginner :)

This is the working code I use at the moment:

Sure you can. Its as easy as loading the map. See this example:

http://dev.openlayers.org/examples/osm-google.html

Code: (Place this after the OpenLayers map)

var gmap = new OpenLayers.Layer.Google("Google Streets");
    map.addLayer(gmap);

and load the folowing javascript:

<script src="http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?v=3&amp;sensor=false"></script>
  • Your welcome! I updated the answer with some example code for future reference. – Dennis van Schaik Oct 21 '14 at 15:03
