A question regarding mapnik:

Is it possible to configure a custom max. zoom level? I am trying to find a way to get mapnik to render tiles for zoom levels 20+ (till 28 would be nice).

PS: The solution according to this link does not seem to exist anymore.

  • you can go lower wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Zoom_levels but (20 to 21) 1:1000 >1:500 will be 4 times the number of images than zoom 19. the formula is S=C*cos(y)/2^(z+8) – Mapperz May 28 '15 at 21:04
  • 4 times the number of images, even 8, 16 oder 32 times would be perfectly okay. I just need a very tiny part of the local area here - and therefore I need those gigantic zoom levels. Those tiles need to be very high in resolution. – Matthias May 29 '15 at 7:03

From what I know Mapnik is not what you need to configure here but whatever software you use to call Mapnik's rendering. In the link of yours it is renderd.

Yes, you are right, this was a misunderstanding on my part. I adjusted the zoom level in render_conf.h of mod_tile an compiled it on my own. I could get it compile without problems, but now I'm stuck because when starting renderd it fails with Specified max zoom (25) is to large. Renderd currently only supports up to zoom level 20. – Matthias May 29 '15 at 7:08
  • Woot! :) I'd say make a new question for renderd. – bugmenot123 May 29 '15 at 8:32
