Could someone kindly explain how to get QGIS (any stable basic version) on my old Mac (OS X 10.6)?

I'm completely new with QGIS and all the instructions that I can find beats me.

Follow this link to a QGIS 2.0 Workshop on how to Install QGIS on Mac OS X.

It will give you instructions on how to install a new version of QGIS (latest one) with all dependencies.

Initially, it will also lead you to the place where you can download a compatible version.

I'd skip this middleman and go right to Kyngchaos. The link misspells "matplotlib" as "Maptolib" which could be confusing for a beginner. – J Kelly Jun 12 '15 at 13:36
  • Yes hav seen that link. Proplem is always the same with the instrucions. GDAL needs OS X 10.7 or newer. – Blueridge Jun 13 '15 at 16:17
  • I have seen succested to install the master version of QGIS compiled by Larry Shaffer or install all with Homebrew. Does someone know any beginners guide for those? – Blueridge Jun 13 '15 at 16:28
