I am using python 2.7.10. I am trying to read a big Raster with gdal and numpy array. But it show In MemoreErrors when i use this: band. ReadAsArray()

Note: this error occurs when input raster is very big not for all of the rasters

Here is my Code:

How could I solve this issue. Other wise I am not able to do further analysis.

  • In memory it will be uncompressed, three bands: 50*55*3=7.25 GB. Do you have that much free? – user30184 Sep 22 '16 at 11:13

You could use the python module RIOS (Raster I/O Simplification). It reads an image into memory in a block of 400 x 400 x nbands and writes the output to a new image. It handles the opening of the existing image and the creation of the new image so the user can focus on the processing. RIOS is here: https://bitbucket.org/chchrsc/rios/overview.

I have used this examples from Optimizing Python GDAL ReadAsArray here and use this for dealing with reading and writing raster and it has worked out. I would also like to to share my modifications:
