I'm trying to display a simple Coastal Terrain Model (CTM) using ArcGIS 10.2.2. The display I have in my first image (below) is ideal, however this was constructed using Unique Values to define the legend and the legend is inappropriate or display.

CTM using unique values

However, using stretched values it is not possible to get the same definition in topography (see image).

Using stretched values

I've also tried a number of masking techniques (based on previous questions e.g. Displaying multiple sea level scenarios?). These don't allow a true legend, having to use transparency settings or masking.

Has anyone produced a "clean" basic image for a coastal terrain model using techniques available on ArcGIS, without masking/manipulating the data.

What do you need to show in your legend? Different elevations, or just an (arbitrary) distinction between higher and lower land and sea? If the latter, maybe you can use the old trick to not have the legend items directly linked to the data symbology, but another layer where you manipulate the items shown as you like. – Martin Mar 15 '17 at 9:09
