I'm trying to select all .las points that fall within a selected polygon. So basically like select by location, but with a .las file and a feature layer file instead of two feature layer files.

I know that with extract las it is possible to clip a .las file based on a feature layer, but I want to do this without creating a new las dataset every time.

  • Any suggestions of other programs or environments where I could do this are also appreciated – Maarten May 14 '18 at 13:23
  • I've never used las data before. But reading your question I wonder if it is a format that can support selections? If you can feed it into a make featurelayer tool then it should be able to be selected in the select by location tool. – Hornbydd May 15 '18 at 7:45

Why extract las is not suitable? I think what you want to do after selecting is crucial to answer the question. For example, converting the .las files to multi point, then using select by location would work? Would this approach work gis.stackexchange.com/questions/143380/…? What do you want to do with data, after selecting it? Please, clarify by editing the question. Tks. – Andre Silva Sep 12 '18 at 16:58
