I am trying to upload shapefiles through GeoServer REST API's. I am not able to create new layer with this following snippet of code. However Create Workspace and style method works fine using this API. The REST API source code link is here [https://github.com/geosolutions-it/geoserver-manager].

 File shapeFile = new File("/Users/abc.zip");
 boolean published = publisher.publishShp(wsName, storeName, layerName, shapeFile);
 assertTrue("Publish failed.....", published);

The Assertion always fails. The log details are below:

The above .publishshp method creates a datastore, but not layer. Eg:

boolean existsdb = reader.existsDatastore(wsName, storeName); //returns True

I have also made sure the RESTabc.shp in zipfile is same as layerName="RESTabc". Nothing seems to work out, not sure where I am going wrong, seems simple but not able to figure it out.

    try turning logging level up to GEOSERVER-DEBUG and try again

Check if you can read from that file abc.zip , Your getting a NullPointerException in ShapeFileDataStore. Which I am guessing its due to the file not existing.

 File shapeFile = new File("/Users/abc.zip");
 assert shapeFile.canRead();

  • The shapefile object is able to read the file. And also the abc.zip contains all the supporting file the .shp requires like (.dbf, .prj, .shx).

    can you get access to line 264 in the source file (ShapefileDataStore.java:264)? what is causing the nullpointer.

  • Seems that, but I am not able to figure out. Any hints for replicating the issue.

    the zip file, are you certain it contains valid shape files? looking at the source code, perhaps its not creating the Geo feature correctly github.com/geotools/geotools/blob/master/modules/plugin/…

  • Polygon rings must be wrapped using "right hand rule" (not the engineering one, with reference to thumb and hand curl, the other one, where, when walking the perimeter, the right hand is inside the figure; for the engineering rule, you want left hand), with clockwise external and counterclockwise internal rings. Rings cannot cross or touch at more than one point.

I think that the layer name must match the zipped shapefile name in order to GeoServer to upload it, otherwise you get a NullPointerException. So, if your shapefile name is "abc.zip", layer name should be "abc". Also, all files inside abc.zip should be named abc as well.
