I want to convert a DEM with the following GEOGCS :

GEOGCS["WGS 84",
DATUM["WGS_1984",
    SPHEROID["WGS 84",6378137,298.257223563,
        AUTHORITY["EPSG","7030"]],
    AUTHORITY["EPSG","6326"]],
PRIMEM["Greenwich",0],
UNIT["degree",0.0174532925199433],
AUTHORITY["EPSG","4326"]]

to EGM08 with WGS84 Datum.

I tried the following : gdal_translate -ot Float64 -a_srs EPSG:3855 -of GTiff N45.tiff N45_float_egm08.tiff but the output image is the same as the input image. The area has variations in elevation around +45/+50 m.

Did I do something wrong ?

  • What is the current Vertical Datum of your DEM? Because usually, DEM elevations are not in reference to the ellipsoid, but to an other Vertical Datum, for example a geoid, or mean sea level. – FSimardGIS Nov 15 '18 at 17:09
