Really do not understand what is up. I am able to sum two columns, but unable to divide them. I selected out any entries with "0". Nonetheless, a simple division command in the form of

([a]+[b])/[c]

generates an error and fills the column with 0s and 1s. In the geoprocessing report, it says general error 99999.

What should I do?

What is the data type of the field you try to calculate ? – J.R Apr 18 at 16:15
  • What happens if you use Python instead of VBScript (note will change the field names from being surrounded by [] to being surrounded by !!). – smiller Apr 18 at 16:16

Also error 99999 and field calculator hint at an ESRI product but it's better if you specify the software you're using – J.R Apr 18 at 16:16

Seconding J.R.'s comment and elaborating on it -- if your field is expecting integer values this would fail due to potentially producing floats. support.esri.com/en/technical-article/000015070 and desktop.arcgis.com/en/arcmap/latest/manage-data/geodatabases/… – smiller Apr 18 at 16:19

Welcome and thank you to precise which GIS software you use, and better, its version. – J. Monticolo Apr 18 at 17:17
