I am a complete beginner in GIS domain and I would say intermediate level with Python. I would like to use Python to plot a simple map displaying the hiking trails of Norway to prepare my future holidays. The data I want to process is from https://kartkatalog.geonorge.no which distributes open data for Norway maps.
The hiking trails dataset is available at this page : "Tur- og friluftsruter" https://kartkatalog.geonorge.no/metadata/tur--og-friluftsruter/d1422d17-6d95-4ef1-96ab-8af31744dd63
- The data is distributed with different formats : FGDB, GML, PostGIS, SOSI. Since I am a complete beginner, I do not understand which file I should select and process and if they are different in terms of content.
I have found some raster files for background such as:
- "N50 Raster (UTM33) - Fylkesvis" https://kartkatalog.geonorge.no/metadata/n50-raster-utm33-fylkesvis/f89c916d-000c-4084-a2fb-d405dd65a7dc
- "N50 Raster (UTM33) - Rutevis" https://kartkatalog.geonorge.no/metadata/n50-raster-utm33-rutevis/1a7d4919-fc5d-4278-9ae9-45ee23f26808
- The first one is a MrSID file, the second is a TIFF file. I have seen that MrSID is a proprietary file format and I expect it to be difficult to process with Python.
[Edit:In order to comply with the Q&A format, I remove my first subsidiary question]
My first question is: which file format from FGDB, GML, PostGIS or SOSI should I process to plot my map? with which Python module?
second essential question is: how to plot the map with the TIFF file as background and the hiking trails on top?
