I'm just starting geostats in R and I would like to use a vector picture (in SVG, PDF or EPS format) that I created as a symbol for my points (spatial coordinates) instead of using the default symbols (ie pch).

Is it possible to import a vector image and replace automatically all points corresponding to my coordinates with my image?

I found this question here which match my expectations but the answer is not fully for my issue.

library(sf)
library(raster)
library(geosphere)
project_coord = read.csv("coordinates_project.tsv", sep="\t", dec = ".", header = TRUE)
france_metro = getData('GADM', country='FRA', level=2)
plot(france_metro, main="")
points(project_coord$x, project_coord$y, cex = 0.5, pch = 24, col = "black", bg="red")
