I am using a Shapefile of which the projection is not recognized by QGIS. The .prj file of the shapefile has the following information:

GEOGCS["GCS_WGS_1984",DATUM["D_WGS_1984",SPHEROID["WGS_1984",6378137,298.257223563]],PRIMEM["Greenwich",0],UNIT["Degree",0.017453292519943295]]

I want to add this custom coordinate reference system, but I can't get it to work. My parameters are validated, but the "name" keeps causing an error (see added picture) problem with custom coordinate reference system

Does anyone know how to solve this?

To detect an unknown crs, Projfinder can be a useful tool.

  • If there's a .prj file with the .shp file then open it in a text editor or Word and show the contents in your message.

  • Thanks a lot! This really helps, there was a prj file with the following message: GEOGCS["GCS_WGS_1984",DATUM["D_WGS_1984",SPHEROID["WGS_1984",6378137,298.257223563]],PRIMEM["Greenwich",0],UNIT["Degree",0.017453292519943295]]
