Hoping folks are tolerant of rank beginner questions. I recently downloaded QGIS 3.12.3 running on a pc with windows 10.

I have my first project and map which looks good in print layout, but it looks very different when exported as a pdf or image file. For example way more fine (but unreadable) detail items showing up (like tiny city names and such). If I could just get an export that looked like what I see on my screen I'd be set.

  • can you provide some screenshots? I assume you are using OSM as a basemap? – sn1ks Jul 2 '20 at 5:57
  • In this case, I was using Google Maps. I think I figured out that my issue is related to resolution. Image looks close to what I see in Print Layout when I export at 100 dpi, but comes through with too much clutter at 300 dpi. Still seems I should be able to export at hi res and have it look like what I see?? I have screenshots to demo, but can't see how to paste into this reply – erp Jul 3 '20 at 1:28
