I am struggling with converting SVG files (with geographic coordinate metadata) into a GeoJSON file. I have been trying the svg2geojson command line util and online conversion tool MyGeodata Cloud.

Both give me errors with the upper case "S" that I have in my outline letters of the word "YES".

The svg2geojson says:

"Our deepest apologies, but elliptical arc commands (A) are not yet supported."

And mygeodata.cloud just gives:

"No spatial data were recognized in your uploaded data."

Although I do have spatial data and if I take out the "S" (the last path) - it works! Maybe I am missing something or there is a better way? The file is here (since I can't attach):

I found the solution in my case.

I have a map in SVG with paths and poligons. Like in the example below I found a tag to embed:

But this leads me to the error "No spatial data were recognized in your uploaded data". And here are my solution to fix it:

  1. Open SVG file in Inkscape
  2. Select the regions I need for the map
  3. "Edit - Reverse Selection" in the top menu
  4. Delete all like borders, paths, roads and etc. I don't really need for the work

Put the geo tag back to the file. And now the SVGtoGPKG converter works fine.

Here are two possible answers for why it happens:

  • The original file is too big, I made it smaller
  • Paths and etc. objects aren't works fine with this converter.
