I am trying to extract XY coordinates/georeference points from a dynamic web map (specifically electric vehicle charging stations). I basically want to download/extract the location of the charging station and be able to have it as my own dataset to input to QGIS.

How can I do this? Can I do this?

An example would be the website 'Plugshare' and I want to download the EV charging station data for denmark into a CSV or workable file with geographic coordinates.

  • If you have some experience with scripting you may try the developer.plugshare.com/docs/#introduction? but then you will need an API key. Otherwise scrapping data from the plugshare.com/en (which is possible) may collide with the Privacy Policy company.plugshare.com/privacy.html

  • Would not charging station location be a non issue with privacy? I have a couple of other websites I want to extract data from. I guess the only other way would be to write a script in Python/QGIS for this

  • Yes, (1) It is up to you and (2) you need to read the privacy policy more in detail. I will probably start with "getting" (with Python's Beautiful Soup) the data (CSV format maybe be a good start), pre-processing it a bit (Python's pandas), and then bringing it into QGIS.
