I have been provided with a set of raster maps. Thanks to another helpful user here I have been able to acquire some elevation data for the same region from gis.utah.gov in asc format. Now I need to correlate the two data sets. Can this be done in Matlab? If not, I am a proficient programmer and would appreciate instructions on how to do this in any language.

Do you have georeferencing information for the raster maps? – ElendilTheTall Nov 24 '12 at 17:46

I do not want to mosaic two raster maps. I want to be able to query the elevation data for the elevation of a particular point in the raster map. – DaemonMaker Nov 24 '12 at 18:18

Do you have access to ArcGIS 10? – Aaron♦ Nov 24 '12 at 18:53

I do not. I have been playing with qgis but it is a bit out of my domain. Furthermore I really need to be able to work with the data programatically. Ultimately I am using this in a machine learning application. – DaemonMaker Nov 24 '12 at 18:55
Raster functions in PostGIS 2.0 could help you, hardest part would be to import data there.
