Function/Plugin to generate polygons, which will be used as atlas features

Question

I often have to create print layouts for a variable amount of features. The layout should be fixed scale and size.

Is there a tool that creates features, which then can be used as atlas features?

So that the amount of atlas pages is minimal. In some sort, it would be a variation of the PolyStrip plugin.

For example, in the picture below, the pink polygons are those needed to be printed. And the tool would generate the blue polygons.
