I want to remove OSGeo4w to the base program without removing the program entirely. I am not using QGIS right now, but will in the future. I want to just remove some of the extra packages (and open some space up on my PC), but everytime I run the uninstall it adds to the storage size instead of removing. Before running the uninstall it was a total of 5.2GB.

Do you mean that uninstalling QGIS added 1.5 GB into your OSGeo4W directory? That feels odd.– user30184Commented Sep 20, 2023 at 19:21

That's odd. Are you using the online installation option?– GforGISCommented Sep 21, 2023 at 0:47

QGIS is installed but, was trying to remove the extra OSGeo4W packages. When going through the removal process in OSGeo4W, it used up more of my storage instead of uninstalling. I was using the OSGeo4W GUI to uninstall it.– MikCommented Oct 20, 2023 at 15:58

What works for me:
1 - I update the applications to the latest version available in osgeo4w.
2 - I rename the folder where the packages are (I put "_old")
3 - I open the osgeo4w installer, "Advanced" > "Install from internet"
4 - I indicate a new folder to download the packages
5 - in the package selection, I go to "All" and click until "Reinstall" appears.
It downloads the packages of the current versions that are installed (and their dependencies).
I would also like an option to remove the old packages and their old dependencies (to free up space)
