Within my webpages (high traffic), I have been using Leaflet+ESRI to serve satellite map tiles to help users to find hotels in Asia, without any kind of charge from ESRI.

However, ESRI started to charge this service, and I'm trying to find a free service providing satellite map tiles (not cartography tiles). I've been checking lists of providers (https://leaflet-extras.github.io/leaflet-providers/preview/, https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Raster_tile_providers), but did not find anyone offering free service of satellite maps.

I've tried with:

  • Stadia, but the satellite maps are included just within a test period
  • Google Maps, Mapbox and Bing Maps, but I exceed the monthly free credits
  • OpenAerialMap, but they offer limited areas

I've heard about 'Planet.com' (https://developers.planet.com/docs/planetschool/building-a-simple-web-map-with-planet-apis/), but not sure if the provide free tiles for websites.

    As far as I know this one is free: http://server.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Imagery/MapServer/tile/{z}/{y}/{x}
