Forgive me if this question has an incredibly obvious answer. I'm very new to ESRI and I'm trying to add markers to my map via gps coordinates. I have not found an example that does something this simple. When I try to adapt the more complicated ones, my code breaks.
Would this be an image layer? a SimpleMarkerSymbol? a PictureMarkerSymbol?
What would really help is an extremely streamlined example of a marker on a map so I can see how it works and then adapt my code from there. It seems all the samples I'm finding have all kinds of fancy extras that I'm not familiar enough to play with.
EDIT
I've actually got some markers on my map! yay!
But now, I'm having a tough time with the coordinates showing up where I expect. As you can see from the screenshot, the highlighted marker uses gps coordinates (42.10560 -88.380801) that should put it somewhere in northern Illinois but for some reason, its all the way off the east coast. The second marker shows up in Illinois but I guestimated the coordinates for that one.
I think it has something to do with the SpatialReference class but I've tried changing the WKID attribute to various things that some of the mapping experts in my office have suggested but nothing seems to change anything.
Here is my code for playing around with.
