Tile Server is a generic name for any web server that provides map tiles, for example it applies to services that conform to the Tile Map Service (TMS) standard such as TileCache and MapProxy, it applies to services that conform to the Web Map Tile Service (WMTS) standard, and it applies to services that provides tiles through a proprietary API.
