fromPointXY creates a new geometry from a QgsPointXY object which is a tuple with two float coordinates, i.e. "X" and "Y".
So, try the following expression
feat.setGeometry(QgsGeometry.fromPointXY(QgsPointXY(coords[0], coords[1])))
