Smoothing round border of created buffer in QGIS
In such cases, I usually use the following expression, which allows you to configure the final vector result very flexibly:

Improving use of QGIS GDAL Contour Polygon function
The method that's working for me is using the contour polygon -fl to extract the polygons along each interval.
